Fountains of Hope
January 14, 2014
Where does inspiration come from? For some it is fleeting, coming in brief waves. Others can’t get out of the way, it comes in a never ending avalanche of creativity.
It can be purely internal; God instigated ideas that pop up like crocuses through the snow. Or it can be a spark that comes from and external stimulus, like a sunrise or a passing comment.
Sometimes it’s childlike, “Hey dad! Doesn’t that cloud look like a dragon?” or technological; speaking of clouds, who thought of saving information there?
It is my belief that no matter where it comes from, inspiration is God driven whether we try to take credit for it or not.
As the New Year has been approaching I have been praying for inspiration to begin the process to plan another trip to Kenya. For me this process is both arduous and exciting. There is a reasonable amount of work that needs to be accomplished which can be daunting, but on the other side of the ledger is another adventure of a lifetime that is filled with great friends and friendships as well as sights and sounds that are unlike any other I have experienced. Most of all though an opportunity to provide safe drinking water in a place that desperately needs it through Fountains of Hope.
It was the week between Christmas and New Years Day and I received a text from a friend who I talk to only about once a year (unfortunately). The text says “Are you still needing money for Africa?”… I’m thinking to myself that God is not done with me in Kenya yet. By the time we were finished, he and his wife were mailing a check for $10,000.
You would think that would be enough to get me off square one, but I was still fighting with myself over beginning the process. My brother has been calling and texting because he feels called to go on one of these trips. I have been in dialog with the Kenyan government for a project to provide safe drinking water at the public schools there. Still no real motivation to begin.
Finally yesterday I get to my office and on my keyboard is another check for $5000.00 that had been promised a year ago for the previous trip and had been delayed for one reason or another. If I don’t look out this inspiration is going to run me over like a freight train.
So it is with a great deal of pleasure and anticipation that I announce the 2014 Fountains of Hope trip to Kenya, Africa.
The dates are March 10-March 22. The cost is thankfully quite a bit less this year at 2500.00. Right now I have 3 people who are for sure committed and have room for 3 more. I will need a firm commitment by Monday, January 20th.
Through no real effort of my own, there is $15,000 raised for a $25,000 need and I would ask that you would prayerfully consider supporting the trip financially. I also will cherish your prayers and encouragement. The ability to share with people here what goes on with our trips is a great source of joy and invigoration.
I will encourage you all, no matter how it comes to you, to look for your inspiration, your creativity, with expectation and hope and allow it to move you forward in whatever God has called you to do. Getting run over by a freight train is no fun.
